What is scale?
Scale happens when the minerals and metals in water 'fall out' of solution and settle onto the pool surface. This leaves unsightly stains and rough deposits on the surface.
The importance of preventing scale.
Properly balanced water chemistry is essential at all times for your pool surface but is especially urgent during the first thirty (30) days of a freshly plastered pool. While the surface is curing it is very susceptible to staining, scaling, and discoloration. Scaling will be more noticeable on a pool surface that is any color other than white.
All municipal water has some amount of metals and minerals. Therefore, it is essential that you put a scale prevention product in your pool water once the pool is filled. Continue to use the scale prevention product each month. For the typical pool we recommend one full bottle of scale prevention product after plastering once the pool is full of water and approximately six (6) ounces each month thereafter. However, each pool is different and yours may require more or less of the product. Please consult your dealer or pool technician for the amount needed for your pool. If you use a salt system on your pool it is even more critical to use scale prevention on an ongoing basis. Salt has minerals in it and if the minerals are not removed scale will occur. The scale prevention product will help prevent scale on the pool surface and in the salt system unit as well.
Consult your local pool professional for recommendations as to which product and quantity your pool will require.
